Practice Review As a self-regulating organization, the Institute has a mandate to maintain and improve the knowledge, skill, and proficiency of its members as well as protect the public. One of the ways in which it fulfills this mandate is through a program of inspecting and reviewing the practices of CAs who are licensed to offer services to the public. The BC Institute has a practice review program that is conducted by independent practice review officers. These officers are directed by the Practice Review and Licensing Committee, which includes non-CA public representatives. Each firm is reviewed to ensure its continued compliance with professional standards. The focus of these reviews is both regulatory and educational (i.e., to help provide reliable service to clients). Firms are visited by a practice review officer at least once every four years, with follow-up visits if required. A visit includes an assessment of professional practice standards and advice on ways to improve the quality of service offered to clients.
